Boswellia

Boswellia-Extrakte werden aus dem Harz (einer dicken, klebrigen organischen Substanz) des Baumes Boswellia serrata gewonnen, der auf der Arabischen Halbinsel, in Somalia, Äthiopien und Indien vorkommt. Es wurde in einer Vielzahl von traditionellen Heilmitteln für entzündliche, gastrointestinale und Atemwegserkrankungen verwendet.[1][2][3][4] Boswellia wird auch als Weihrauch bezeichnet, abgeleitet vom altfranzösischen Begriff franc encens, was „reiner und edler Hochqualitätsweihrauch“ bedeutet.[4] Es wurde in Trauerzeremonien und religiösen Ritualen in der katholischen Kirche verwendet.[4]

Hauptvorteile.. :Die meisten Belege für Boswellia finden sich bei Arthrose, wo es allgemein große Effektgrößen aufweist, die Evidenz jedoch von niedriger Qualität ist.\[1\]\[2\]\[3\]\[4\] Es gibt einige insgesamt schwache Beweise, die Boswellia bei neurologischen Problemen unterstützen (traumatische Hirnverletzung,\[5\] Schlaganfall-Rehabilitation,\[6\] und Gedächtnis bei älteren Erwachsenen\[7\]), sowie bei Verbrennungen (durch Feuer\[8\] und Krebsstrahlung\[9\]). Darüber hinaus gibt es spärliche Beweise für akute Durchfallerkrankungen\[10\] und chronisches Asthma bei Erwachsenen\[11\].

Hauptnachteile: Boswellia hatte in einer Vielzahl von klinischen Studien konsequent keine nachteiligen Auswirkungen.\ In einigen Studien hatte eine kleine Minderheit der Teilnehmer in der Boswellia-Gruppe Kopfschmerzen, Schwindel oder Durchfall.\

Boswellia-Harz enthält Verbindungen wie Boswelliasäuren (hauptsächlich Acetyl-Keto-Boswelliasäure), die entzündliche Zytokine und Enzyme wie C-reaktives Protein, TNF-?, 5-Lipoxygenase und Matrixmetalloproteinasen hemmen. Diese könnten eine Rolle bei der Gelenkknorpelzerstörung und Entzündung von Osteoarthritis spielen.
